Retrieval Message (RET Message)

The Retrieval message allows you to retrieve previously transmitted messages. It is suggested that you use the manual Retrieval message if one of the following occurs:

  • You are missing sequence numbers.
  • You want to retrieve a copy of a prior transmission for your records.

Normally, you may retrieve a maximum of 22 messages per request. During holiday periods, the maximum may be reduced. When necessary, the retrieval procedure may be temporarily restricted.

You are able to complete a Retrieval for about four to six weeks after the message was originally sent or received. After this time period, you will need to request the information from the archive file, which a Mercury Direct support representative can view and print to be mailed or faxed to you.

To send a Retrieval message:

  1. On the Mercury Direct Main Menu, click the Message menu, and then click Retrieval (RET).
  2. From the Your Code list, select your shop code for which you want to retrieve orders.
  3. In the From Order Number field, enter the Mercury number of the last “good” order or message that you sent or received if you are requesting the Retrieval message due to missing sequence numbers. Note: Typing a message number into this field and leaving the To Order Number field empty will allow you to retrieve all messages from the number you enter in through the last message you sent or received.
  4. In the From Date field, ener the date that you sent/received the order listed in the From Order Number field.
  5. In the To Order Number field, you may do one of the following:
    • Enter the same order or message and sequence number that you entered in the From Order Number field if you want to retrieve just that specific order or message.
    • Enter a different order or message and sequence number if you want to retrieve a range of orders or messages.
    • Leave this field blank OR type an asterisk (*) in this field to retrieve all messages (from the order number you entered into the From Order Number field through the last message you sent or received).
  6. In the To Date field, enter the date that you sent/received the order listed in the To Order Number field, or enter today’s date if you left the To Order Number field blank.
  7. From the Type of Retrieval list, select one of the following options from the drop down list:
    • Retrieve All Messages. This option prompts the Host Computer to retrieve a copy of all orders and messages that were sent and received over your Mercury Direct system (starting with the indicated order or message number).
    • Retrieve Received Messages - this option prompts the Host Computer to retrieve a copy of orders and messages that were received over your Mercury Direct system (starting with the indicated order or message number).
    • Retrieve Sent Messages - this option prompts the Host Computer to retrieve a copy of orders and messages that were sent over your Mercury Direct system (starting with the indicated order or message number).
  8. In the Operator field, enter your name.
  9. Click Submit to send the message during the next Mercury Direct Communications session. If you want to send the message immediately, click Submit, then click the Transmit Now button on the Mercury Direct Main Menu.
