The Ask message allows you to make order–related inquiries (such as confirming an address) or to request a price change. If the message is used to indicate a price change, it must be sent in the same calendar month as the original order. Sending the Ask message within the same calendar month allows the program to correct the price for the Clearing House billing. If the filling Member requests a price change, the sending Member must send an Answer Message displaying the NEW price. Only then will the price be adjusted on the Clearing House billing.

NOTE: If you are requesting a price change, you can also use the Price Change message.

To create an Ask message:

  1. On the Mercury Direct Main Menu, click Ask a Question. The Ask a Question screen opens.
  2. Click the magnifying glass icon next to the Order Number field. The Message Search window opens.
  3. Click Search to list all incoming and outgoing orders, or specify additional information to narrow your search, and then click the Search button.
  4. When you locate the Order message you are inquiring about, highlight the message, and then click Select. The Ask a Question screen will reappear with most of the information completed for you.
  5. In the Reason Type field, select your reason for sending this message.
  6. In the Reason or Note Text field, add notes as needed.
  7. If you are requesting a price change, enter the new price in the New Price field. Otherwise leave this field blank.
  8. In the Operator field, enter your name.
  9. Click Submit to send the message during the next Mercury Direct Communications session.
