You can set two types of security in FTD Mercury:

  • Job Function–Level Security - Job function-level security is security that you set that is the same for all employees in a particular job function. For example, you may want to restrict all clerks from performing a No Sale transaction in Point of Sale, or you may want all Managers to be able to terminate an employee. When you create these settings for a job function, you create them for all employees in the job function. You can then customize these at the employee level.
  • Employee Window Access - Each new employee automatically inherits the window access associated with their job function. You can, however, override this access on an employee-by-employee level, granting the employee more or less access as desired. The message “You are not authorized to use this function” displays if the employee tries to access a restricted area.

Setting Job Function-Level Security

To set job-level security for a job function:

  1. Open the Window Access screen in Mercury Administration.
  2. From the Job Function list, select the job function you want to configure.
  3. Select check boxes for areas of the program to which you want that job function to have access.
  4. Click Apply to save changes before exiting this window.

Setting Window Access for Employees

To set window access levels for employees:

  1. Access the Window Access screen in Mercury Administration.
  2. Select the function you want the employee to have from the Job Function list. The access for the job function is listed in the Window Function and Window Access areas.
  3. For each Window Function, customize the Window Access for the employee as necessary.
  4. Click Apply to save the changes before exiting this screen.
