THIS IS PRELIMINARY INFORMATION AND IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITH THE RELEASE OF FTD MERCURY X2.

Important

Before you upgrade your server, use this CD to check that not only your server meets the minimum requirements, but also all of your clients do as well. Your clients MUST be on the same version of FTD Mercury as your server. Clients that do not meet the minimum requirements will not function once you upgrade the server.

Minimum Requirements for FTD Mercury Servers

Before upgrading to FTD Mercury X2, your server must be running either FTD Mercury 8.x, FTD Mercury X, or FTD Mercury X1. If you have not yet installed either of these versions, contact the Mercury Technology Assistance Center (MTAC) at 1-888-309-2244 for assistance. You must also be running Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (either Standard or Express). If you have yet to install it, the CD(s) were included with this upgrade. Additionally, you must process credit cards over the Internet (CCAPI) and Mercury Messages over the Internet.

IMPORTANT: Your server must have been bought from FTD. We do not support servers purchased from elsewhere.

Windows Server 2003 (SP1 or later) is required if you have 5 clients or more; either Windows Server 2003 (SP1 or later) or Windows XP Professional (SP2 or later) can be used for less than 5 clients.

Component Minimum Requirement
CPU HP d530, HP dc7100, HP dc7600, HP dc7700, HP dc7800, HP rp5000, HP rp5700, or HP ProLiant ML350
Memory 2 GB
Hard Drive Space 5 GB free space on C: drive
Video
  • All VGA with minimum of 1024 x 768 resolution
  • 16-bit color
  • Small/normal font size
Operating System
  • Less than 5 Clients - Windows XP Professional SP2
  • 5 or More Clients - Windows Server 2003 SP2

Important: Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows XP Home, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 are not supported on the server.

Database
  • Less than 5 Clients - Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP2
  • 5 or More Clients - Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition SP2
Accounting Software
  • QuickBooks 2008 (U.S. and Canadian)
  • QuickBooks 2009 (U.S. and Canadian)
  • QuickBooks 2010 (U.S. and Canadian)

Important: Beginning with the FTD Mercury X2 release, FTD no longer supports integration of any earlier versions of QuickBooks.

Mapping Software
  • Microsoft MapPoint 2006
  • Microsoft MapPoint 2009
  • Microsoft MapPoint 2010
Other Software Norton AntiVirus 7.6 (Symantec AntiVirus 10.0 or later strongly recommended)

Upgrading the Server to FTD Mercury X2

Before you upgrade, FTD strongly recommends you back up your current FTD Mercury database.

To upgrade your server:

  1. Close all running programs, including FTD Mercury.
  2. Perform an FTD Shutdown by clicking on the Windows Start button, pointing to All Programs, then to FTD Software, and clicking FTDShutdown.
  3. Insert the FTD Mercury CD into the CD drive of your server (the installation will take a few seconds to begin). If the installation does not begin automatically, click the Windows Start button on the taskbar and click Run. Type d:\setup.exe (where d is your CD drive) and click OK.
  4. You will be asked "Have you verified that ALL of your client systems meet minimum requirements for FTD Mercury X2? If you install FTD Mercury X2 on this server and a client machine cannot be upgraded, you will NOT be able to use that client." Click Yes if you have checked all of your clients, or click No to stop the installation.
  5. On the Welcome panel, click Next.
  6. If you are running any software programs that must be closed, the installer lists those programs and asks you to close them now. Close the programs and click Retry.
  7. Read the license agreement. Scroll to the end of the agreement and click Yes to accept it.
  8. If you want to install the FTD Mercury screen saver and/or the FTD Mercury wallpaper, select the option(s) and click Next.
  9. Depending upon whether you are processing credit cards with FTD or not, you will see different windows or panels next.
    • If you are processing credit cards with FTD, on the Credit Card Conversion panel, you will be informed of the number of credit cards FTD Mercury will convert to unique IDs. Conversion takes some time, and will occur after the rest of the installation (but before you can begin using the FTD Mercury system again). Click Next.
    • If you are not processing credit cards with FTD, you are informed that FTD Mercury requires processing credit cards with FTD CashFlo to preserve the ability to recall credit card information for some scenarios, including refunds and to store a customer's credit card for future use. You are given the option of canceling the installation. If you choose not to cancel the installation, you are given one last chance to cancel it - as all credit card information will be removed from your system. If you click OK at this point, your credit card information will be removed permanently.
  10. Review the installation settings and click Install.
  11. The wizard informs you when the installation is complete. Ensure that Yes, I want to restart my computer now is selected and click Finish.
  12. After the server reboots, during an automatic FTD Startup, you will see the Storing Cards on File window. The installation automatically converts the credit card numbers to unique IDs. This may take some time (click here for estimates). You will be unable to log into or use FTD Mercury until the conversion finishes (even if you attempt to reboot your server, it will continue when you start FTD Mercury again). Once the conversion is complete, you can either wait for the window to close automatically, or click Close to close it manually. You can, however, eject the CD and begin upgrading your clients.
  13. Log into FTD Mercury as you normally would.

FTD strongly recommends you check for any updates to FTD Mercury before using you system for any additional orders. To do so:

  1. In the System Tray (at the lower right of your desktop near the clock), double-click the FTD Automatic Software Updates icon. The Automatic Software Updates window opens.
  2. Click Update to check for and install any new updates.
  3. Follow any additional prompts provided by the Automatic Software Updates application.

Minimum Requirements for Client PCs

The following are minimum requirements for client PCs. If your client PC does not meet these requirement, FTD will not support it. Both the FTD Mercury Server and all clients must be on the same FTD Mercury version; if you upgrade your server to FTD Mercury X2, you must also upgrade your client(s) to FTD Mercury X2.

Client PCs must be running on Windows XP Professional (SP2 or later) or Windows Vista Business Edition (32-bit only). No other operating systems are supported. Mercury Delivery, Mercury Marketing, and report generation require Microsoft Office (XP or later).

Important: You cannot use your own PC for Point of Sale; you must have bought the FTD Mercury client hardware and Point of Sale hardware/peripherals from FTD. We do not support Point of Sale hardware not purchased from FTD.

Component Minimum Requirement
CPU PC compatible 900 MHz (we recommend 1.5 GHz if running Mercury Delivery, Mercury Marketing, and or if using Windows Vista)
Memory 1 GB (we strongly recommend 2GB if running Mercury Delivery, Mercury Marketing, or if using Windows Vista)
Hard Drive Space 3 GB free space on C: drive
Video
  • All VGA with minimum of 1024 x 768 resolution
  • 16-bit color
  • Small/normal font size
Operating System
  • Microsoft Windows Vista Business (32-bit only)
  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP2

Important: Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows XP Home, other "flavors" of Windows Vista (aside from Windows Vista Business), and Windows 7 are not supported on client systems.

Database
  • Less than 5 Clients - Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP2
  • 5 or More Clients - Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition SP2
Mapping Software

If you are using Map It or Distance Map from your client PC, you must have one of the following versions of Microsoft MapPoint installed to work:

  • Microsoft MapPoint 2006
  • Microsoft MapPoint 2009
  • Microsoft MapPoint 2010
Other Software Microsoft Office XP or later (if running Mercury Delivery, Mercury Marketing, or generating reports on the client)

Upgrading Client PCs to FTD Mercury X2

Your clients and server must be running the same version to work. You can upgrade clients without upgrading the server, but they will not work until the server is upgraded to the same version as the clients.

To install FTD Mercury X1 on client systems:

  1. Close all running programs, including FTD Mercury.
  2. Insert the FTD Mercury CD into the CD drive of the client (the installation will take a few seconds to begin). If the installation does not begin automatically, click the Windows Start button on the taskbar and click Run. Type d:\setup.exe (where d is your CD drive) and click OK.
  3. You will receive a message indicating whether the client system meets minimum requirements for FTD Mercury X2. If it does, click Yes to install.
  4. On the Welcome panel, click Next. (It may take several seconds for this panel to appear.)
  5. Read the license agreement. Scroll to the end of the agreement and click Yes to accept it.
  6. If you want to install the FTD Mercury screen saver and/or the FTD Mercury wallpaper, select the option(s) and click Next.
  7. Click Install.
  8. When the wizard informs you the installation is done, ensure the Yes, I want to restart the computer option is selected, and click Finish.
  9. After the client PC reboots, log into FTD Mercury, then eject the CD and store it in a safe place. If you have any additional clients to upgrade, repeat this procedure.
