Checking for Mercury Direct Connectivity

To check for Mercury Direct Connectivity:

  1. On the Mercury Direct Main Menu, click General Message.
  2. You need to send a message to FTD Headquarters. In the Florist Code field, enter 90-5034AA.
  3. In Message Details, set Priority to X – Express.
  4. In Text or Reason, enter "Testing System" and your current time and date. For example, enter "Testing system, 7:30PM 3/10/2011".
  5. In the Operator field, enter your name.
  6. Click Submit.
  7. When you return to the Mercury Direct Main Menu, click Transmit Now.

You should receive a verified copy in 15 minutes. If you don’t, contact Mercury Support.

Loading the FTD Florist Directory

The FTD Florist Directory is provided to you on a CD three times a year. The basic steps you will perform to upgrade the CD:

  1. Insert the Mercury Direct CD into the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Disable Norton AntiVirus.
  3. Close the Mercury Direct client window.
  4. Open the Mercury Direct Control Panel from the icon tray.
  5. Open the Edit Options window.
  6. Select the Directory tab.
  7. Load the Directory.
  8. Reboot your computer.

Detailed instructions follow.

To load the FTD Directory:

  1. Press the F7 key to open the Mercury Direct Control Panel.
  2. Click the Edit menu and then click the Options command.
  3. In the Edit Options window, click the Directory tab.
  4. In the Wire Service area, click FTD.
  5. Click Settings. The FTD Directory Settings window opens.
  6. Ensure the Directory Available box is checked and the Location is set to On hard drive. Click Update.
  7. You will receive a warning to stop other applications and any antivirus software. When you have done this, click Yes.
  8. For several minutes, a progress bar window is displayed as the FTD Directory is updated. When you are informed the update has completed successfully, click OK. Another message appears letting you know to store your CD in a safe location. Click OK.
  9. Finally, reboot you computer. Once the system comes back up, send a GEN Message to test your system.

Creating Orders

To create an order:

  1. On the Mercury Direct Main Menu, click Create an Order.
  2. Fill in recipient information.
  3. Enter your delivery date.
  4. In Special Instructions, enter any special instructions for the order.
  5. Enter the price including delivery.
  6. For the product, enter the first choice by product code. You can also click the search button (blue magnifying glass) to browse the selections guide and pick the arrangement.
  7. Enter the second choice the same way as the first choice.
  8. In the Enclosure Card field, enter the enclosure card message.
  9. From the Occasion list, select the occasion.
  10. In the Operator field, enter your name.
  11. In the Filling Florist area, select the florist you want to fill the order. You can either enter the shop code, click Auto Select, or click the search button (blue magnifying glass) to search for a florist manually.
  12. Click Submit to send the order.

You will receive a message that your order has been saved and scheduled. If you want to create another order, click Yes to reset the Create an Order screen. Otherwise, click No to return to the Mercury Direct Main Menu. Canceling Orders

To cancel an order:

  1. On the Mercury Direct Main Menu, click Message Search. The Message Search window opens.
  2. Enter search parameters to locate the order you want to cancel and click Search.
  3. Right-click the order you are canceling and click Cancel this Message/Order (CAN). The Cancel an Order (CAN) window opens.
  4. In the Reason Type, choose Other.
  5. In the Reason or Note Text field, enter the reason why you are canceling the order.
  6. In the Operator field, enter your name.
  7. Click Submit.
  8. Once the Message Search screen opens again, click Exit to return to the Main Menu.

Sending Ask Messages

To send an outgoing Ask message:

  1. On the Mercury Direct Main Menu, click Message Search. The Message Search window opens.
  2. Enter search parameters to locate the order you want to ask a question about and click Search.
  3. From the results list, right-click on the FTD OUT message and select Ask a Question (ASK).
  4. When the Ask a Question (ASK) message window opens, enter your question in the Reason or Note Text field.
  5. Click Submit.

Replying to Incoming Ask Messages

To reply to an incoming Ask message:

  1. On the Mercury Direct Main Menu, click Message Search. The Message Search window opens.
  2. Enter search parameters to locate the Ask you want to answer and click Search.
  3. From the results list, right-click on the ASK IN message and select Answer a Question (ANS).
  4. When the Answer a Question (ANS) message window opens, enter your answer in the Reason or Note Text field.
  5. Click Submit.

Responding to Price Adjustment Requests

You may receive messages from filling florists requesting price changes. This will come in the form of an Ask message. Answer the message as you would any other ASK message.

  • If you are agreeing to the price change, in the Answer a Question (ANS) window, you need to enter the updated price in the New Price field and click Submit.
  • If you do not want to accept a price change request, you need to cancel the order (and send it to another florist).

  3. Enter the date and time you want to stop receiving orders from.
  4. Enter the date and time you want to resume receiving orders.
  5. Enter you Operator name.
  6. Click Submit.

Resuming Your System

Only use the Resume (RES) message if you want to resume your system earlier than your original Suspend (SUS) message. If you want to resume later than when you originally put in your Suspend (SUS) message, send a new Suspend (SUS) message.

To send a resume message:

  1. On the Mercury Direct Main Menu, click the Message menu and select Resume (RES).
  2. On the Start Receiving Orders (RES) screen, enter the new resumption date and time.
  3. Enter your Operator name.
  4. If you want to resume right now, click Resume Now. Otherwise, click Submit.
