From the Create Zone window, you can create, view, modify, and delete delivery zones.

Creating a Delivery Zone

You can create a zone in several ways: by entering an address, by specifying zip code(s), or by drawing the zone on the map.

To create a delivery zone using an address:

  1. Access the Create Zone window by clicking the Zones button in the toolbar or by navigating to Zone Management > Zones menu.
  2. Click Create Zone.
  3. Enter a value in the Zone Name field.
  4. Optionally, enter the delivery charges for the zone in the Delivery Charges field.
  5. Select the appropriate delivery type form the Delivery Type menu (either Local, Wire out, or Pool).
  6. Select the appropriate delivery tax code for the zone from the Delivery Tax Code menu.
  7. In the Zone Creation Type field, select Address from the menu.
    The Zone Address section appears on the right side of the window.
  8. Enter the address information for the zone in the Street, City, State/Province, ZIP/Postal Code, and Country fields.
    Note: Only the Street and ZIP/Postal Code fields are required. All other fields are optional.
  9. Click Save.
    The zone is created and saved.
  10. Click Escape or X to leave the Create Zone window.
    The following message appears: “User must restart the Mercury Client for the Zone changes to take effect.”
  11. Restart the Mercury Client to view the new zone.

The following scenarios may occur:

  • The zone name you entered is not unique and the following error message appears: “Zone name not unique. Please enter a unique name for the zone.”
  • The Street and ZIP/Postal Code fields are not completed. The following error message appears: “Street/zip postal code of the address cannot be empty. Please enter the street/zip/postal code.”
  • The address you entered cannot be verified. The following error message appears: “Address verification failed to verify the zone address. Do you want to continue with the unverified address?” Selecting Yes will create the zone using the unverified address. Selecting No will return you to the Create Zone window.


To create a delivery zone using the ZIP or Postal Code

  1. Access the Create Zone window by clicking the Zones button in the toolbar or by navigating to Zone Management > Zones menu.
  2. Click Create Zone.
  3. Enter a value in the Zone Name field.
  4. Optionally, enter the delivery charges for the zone in the Delivery Charges field.
  5. Select the appropriate delivery type from the Delivery Type menu (either Local, Wire out, or Pool).
  6. Select the appropriate delivery tax code for the zone from the Delivery Tax Code menu.
  7. In the Zone Creation Type field, select Postal Code from the menu.
    The Zone Zip Code(s) section appears on the right side of the window.
  8. Enter the ZIP code(s) you wish to be included in the zone.
    Note: You can only enter one ZIP code at a time. To remove a ZIP code from the list, select the appropriate ZIP code and click Remove.
    The ZIP code is added to the ZIP code box.
  9. Click Save.
    The zone is created and saved.
  10. Click Escape or X to leave the Create Zone window.
    The following message appears: “User must restart the Mercury Client for the Zone changes to take effect.”
  11. Restart the Mercury Client to view the new zone.

If you do not enter a unique zone name, the following error message appears: “Zone name not unique. Please enter a unique name for the zone.”


To create a delivery zone using the map:

  1. Access the Create Zone window by clicking the Zones button in the toolbar or by navigating to Zone Management > Zones menu.
  2. Click Create Zone.
  3. Enter a value in the Zone Name field.
  4. Optionally, enter the delivery charges for the zone in the Delivery Charges field.
  5. Select the appropriate delivery type from the Delivery Type menu (either Local, Wire out, or Pool).
  6. Select the appropriate delivery tax code for the zone from the Delivery Tax Code menu.
  7. In the Zone Creation Type field, select Map from the menu.
    The Map section appears at the top of the window, with the map initially zoomed to the address of the store that was set up in Mercury Administration.
  8. To zoom to a different area of the map, you can use one of the following methods:
    • Enter the ZIP code in the Type Place or Address field in the toolbar.
    • Use the zoom bar to display the desired delivery area.
    • Click the Find a Location button from the toolbar and enter the desired address.
    • Use the mouse pointer to pan the map up or down
    • Use the mouse scroll wheel to zoom the map in or out
  9. Once you have selected the appropriate area in the Map section, use the freeform or draw polygon tool on the toolbar to draw the delivery zone area on the map. You can adjust the boundaries of the zone by modifying the lines drawn on the map.
  10. After the zone is drawn on the map, you can optionally perform the following tasks:
    • Change the zone shape's line weight
    • Select the Fill Color icon and/or the Line Color icon on the toolbar to highlight the zone area on the map with a unique color
  11. Click Save.
    The zone is created and saved.
  12. Click Escape or X to leave the Create Zone window.
    The following message appears: “User must restart the Mercury Client for the Zone changes to take effect.”
  13. Restart the Mercury Client to view the new zone.

If you do not enter a unique zone name, the following error message appears: “Zone name not unique. Please enter a unique name for the zone.”


Viewing a Delivery Zone

You can view details for existing zones from either the Delivery Snapshot or Create Zone window. In addition to the zone name, you can also view the delivery charge associated with the zone as well as the zone’s color, boundary color, and any push pins (with the associated store name and address) that have been configured.

To view a delivery zone:

  1. Access the Create Zone window by clicking the Zones button in the toolbar or by navigating to Zone Management > Zones menu.
    All existing zones, with their accompanying name and delivery charge, appear on the map.
  2. Select a map zone from the Zone menu or by clicking the zone on the map.
    The map readjusts and focuses on the selected zone.


Modifying a Delivery Zone

To modify a delivery zone:

  1. Access the Create Zone window by clicking the Zones button in the toolbar or by navigating to Zone Management > Zones menu.
    All existing zones, with their accompanying name and delivery charge, appear on the map.
  2. Select a map zone from the Zone menu or by clicking the zone on the map.
    The map readjusts and focuses on the selected zone.
  3. Click on the zone image on the map to locate the line points.
  4. Drag the line points to the desired zone boundary.
  5. Update the delivery charges, delivery type, and optionally, the delivery tax code.
  6. Click the Save button.


Deleting a Delivery Zone

You cannot remove a delivery zone that is used for non-canceled current or future orders. You also cannot remove a delivery zone that is used in a Standing Order Template.

Zones can be marked as active or inactive in Mercury Administration, Delivery and Delivery zone window. Both active and inactive zones are visible in Mercury Delivery, but inactive zones cannot be used for delivery routes and do not appear in either the Order Entry or Point of Sale windows.

To delete a delivery zone:

  1. Click the Zones toolbar button on the Delivery Snapshot Window. The Create Zone window opens.
  2. In Zone Details, from the Zone list, select the zone you want to remove.
  3. Click Delete.
    The following message appears: “This will delete the zone permanently. Do you want to proceed?”
  4. Click Yes to confirm the zone deletion or No to retain the zone.
  5. Click Escape to close the Create Zone window.

You must restart FTD Mercury before the change will be seen in Order Entry and Point of Sale.
