The Ask message allows you to make order–related inquiries (such as confirming an address) or to request a price change. If the message is used to indicate a price change, it must be sent in the same calendar month as the original order. Sending the Ask message within the same calendar month allows the program to correct the price for the Clearing House billing. If the filling Member requests a price change, the sending Member must send an Answer Message displaying the NEW price. Only then will the price be adjusted on the Clearing House billing.

Note: If you are requesting a price change, you can also use the Price Change message (see “Requesting a Price Change (ASK Message)” on page 37).

This procedure explains how to create an Ask message through a Message Search. By locating the original Order message you are inquiring about, Mercury Direct will complete most of the Ask message for you.

  1. From the Mercury Direct main menu, click Ask a Question OR From the menu bar click Order, then click Ask a Question (ASK).
  2. Click the magnifying glass icon in the Order Number field to access a Message Search.
  3. The Message Search window will list all incoming and outgoing orders if you click Search. Click Search to list all incoming and outgoing orders, or specify additional information to narrow your search, and then click the Search button. (See “Message Search” on page 55 for details.)
  4. When you locate the Order message you are inquiring about, highlight the message and then click Select. The Ask message will reappear with most of the information completed for you.
  5. In the Reason Type field, click the down arrow and select your reason for sending this message.
  6. Add notes as needed in the Reason or Note Text field.
  7. If you are requesting a price change, type the new price in the New Price field. Otherwise leave this field blank.
  8. Type your name in the Operator field.
  9. Click Submit to send the message during the next Mercury Direct Communications session. If you would like to send the message
