C.O.D. Orders

In FTD Mercury, cash on delivery (C.O.D.) encompasses more than just a cash payment when something is delivered. Orders that require payment on delivery (either cash or check) or payment on pickup (by cash, check, or credit card) are designated as C.O.D. orders. The important point to remember is that payment was not provided at the time the order was placed, and you will need to collect it when the order is delivered or picked up.

C.O.D. orders are useful because some customers want to wait to pay you until the goods are ready. One good example is for prom-related items (corsages and boutonnieres). High school students may need to place the order several weeks or months ahead of time, but want to pay when they pick up the item closer to the prom. Another possibility is someone who orders an arrangement over the phone during the day and wants to pick it up at the end of the day and pay in cash. You want to accept the order, but want to make sure it gets paid for when the customer picks it up.

There is, of course, some risk in accepting C.O.D. orders: you do not have payment before you design and create (and possibly deliver) the order.

When to Use C.O.D. Orders

You should use C.O.D. for any local orders (delivery or pickup) where you do not receive payment prior to creating the order. If you get a customer’s credit card number, accept their cash or check, or charge the order to a house account, do not use C.O.D.

If an order has more than one ticket, you cannot use a C.O.D. order. You must create new orders for each additional ticket.

When creating C.O.D. orders, you must use a pickup or local delivery zone; if you select a wire out zone, the C.O.D. button is disabled.
